Steven began making custom furniture and restoring antiques in Suffolk, England. He started woodturning in 1979, in order to provide himself with the components he needed in this business. He is largely self-taught.

Since the 1980’s he has been called upon to do architectural turnings for new buildings and the restoration of historical properties.

In 1989 he moved to France where he continued his artistic turning and furniture making. He was invited to exhibit his work in various galleries and exhibitions in the South of France including Créa in Cadoin and Art Présent and l’Exposition d'Artisanat d’Art in Toulouse and in other galleries in Carcassone and Lascauz.

Steven was chosen to be one of the “38 Artisans of the Aquitaine” in both 1990 and 1991 and was one of three chosen to represent artist-craftsmen of the area, in sending his work for exhibition in Fukuoka, Japan.

In 1997 Steven moved to Nova Scotia on the East Coast of Canada with his Canadian born wife. His studio gallery in Canning is open to the public. He also teaches.

He is a juried member of the Nova Scotia Designer Crafts Council. He exhibits his work in many galleries, including Del Mano Gallery in Los Angeles, Sharada Gallery, New York and Nina Bliese Gallery in Minnesota.

He is a featured artist in “New Masters of Woodturning” published by Fox Chapel Books in 2008 and his work is part of the accompanying exhibition touring the world.
