OPPORTUNITY: Business Development Coordinator

(Permanent Position) Craft Nova Scotia is the provincially recognized craft organization whose mandate is to encourage and promote both the craft movement in Nova Scotia and the public awareness and appreciation of craft products and activities. Craft Nova Scotia manages and operates the Centre for Craft Nova Scotia, a provincially owned facility, consisting of the Mary E. Black Gallery, studios and office space housing programs and services designed to benefit the provincial crafts community.

POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a motivated, energetic individual to join our Craft Nova Scotia Team in the role of Business Development Coordinator. This position will play a key role within Craft Nova Scotia, in the development of craft makers, and the overall support and development of craft in Nova Scotia. This individual is responsible for the development and implementation of programs and initiatives to develop, sustain and grow craft businesses and industries in Nova Scotia. The Business Development Coordinator will manage business skills development activities, support craft retail development and sales for the organization. The Business Development Coordinator will report to the Executive Director, and work collaboratively with team members in the delivery of programs and services.

Duties include:

• Establish, develop and maintain positive relationships with emerging, existing, and established craft artists throughout Nova Scotia.
• Develop a comprehensive Business Development Strategy to nurture, sustain and grow craft artists, and craft businesses in Nova Scotia.
• Research and identify trends in craft businesses and creative industries, to inform and develop innovative practices and programs to enhance innovation in the sector.
• Develop and coordinate an annual series of business skills development workshops for craft artists.
• Develop and coordinate a craft mentorship program.
• Support craft artists to increase their innovation and competitive capabilities.
• Develop collaborative relationships with other related organizations, funders, agencies and businesses.
• Develop training programs to increase the capacity for wholesale and export sales for craft artists Work with craft artists to increase their marketing and online sales capabilities.
• To plan and coordinate the production of Craft Nova Scotia retail markets to support members.
• To oversee the retail sales within the organizations including oversight of the Online Designer Craft Shop.
• To work in collaboration with the Membership Engagement and Administrative Coordinator to coordinate marketing and communications activities to support initiatives and activities.
• Ensure business development related information is maintained and updated on the website.
• Work with other team members to develop an awareness of Nova Scotia’s craft sector regionally, nationally, and globally. 

QUALIFICATIONS

• A Bachelor ‘s Degree in arts and cultural management, business or related field, and or equivalent training and experience in business development.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Experience in event management.

• The role requires an individual with strong organizational, problem solving and decisionmaking abilities. • Proficiency using the Microsoft Office Suite of programs (specifically Word, Outlook, Excel), CRM programs, Square, Shopify, and other related programs.
• Appreciation and familiarity of craft practices, and the Nova Scotia arts, cultural and craft community.
• Awareness, commitment and understanding of occupational health and safety practices.

HOURS OF WORK 35 hours per week. The typical hours are Monday -Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm. Due to the nature of this position hybrid work arrangements will be considered, (a combination of on site in the Craft Nova Scotia office and remote work). This position does require some weekend and evening work to support programs and events as necessary.

COMPENSATION $37, 310 – $42,640 per annum, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefit package, including the option of cost shared pension and health coverage, as per Craft Nova Scotia’s Personnel Policy.
