No experience necessary. Rug hooking is easy and fun. There are just a few rules to learn ... and then you can break them! Rug hooking is a traditional craft in Nova Scotia. It began with strips of recycled clothes or yarn. The backing was burlap made out of old potato sacks. Hooking has developed into an art form using all kinds of materials, yarn and subject matter.

In this course, we will learn the basics of rug hooking, make our own patterns, transfer them to the backing and create our own beautiful 9x11 inch mat.

Instructor

Lena Turofsky

Lena Turofsky has been a passionate rug hooker for 26 years. She was first introduced to hooking at a Craft NS workshop and was immediately hooked! Her love for rug hooking led her to other fiber arts, weaving most recently. She took up drawing to improve her design skills and painting to better colour plan her rugs. Lena's excitement and knowledge of rug hooking, combined with her passion for teaching has led her to introduce and teach rug hooking privately for many years.
