Jewellery Open Studio Program

Winter Term 2024: January 20th to March 23rd. No session on February 17th

Our Open Studio program provides the space for artists, both hobbyists and professionals, to carry out self-directed work using our tools, resources and equipment. They run on Saturdays from 10am to 5pm, with a 1- hour break between 1pm and 2pm at the Centre for Craft studios located at 1096 Marginal Road.

Artists are able to purchase Open Studio hourly passes on our website and use them individually at their convenience. Once purchased, you will be provided with a link to sign up to Open Studio Hours within 1-3 business days.

Please note that once you submit a sign-up form, you have reserved your space and won’t receive confirmation from our staff. If you need to make a cancellation, we suggest doing it 48 hours before the Open Studio session. In the case of a cancellation, the Open Studio artist will keep their hours.

First-time studio visitors need to dedicate the first 15 minutes of their first hour to a mandatory orientation.

While there will be a technician present to troubleshoot, attendees need to be able to use the equipment by themselves. Artists must bring their own materials and are encouraged to bring their own tools but are welcome to use the ones in our studios.

For artists looking to cast ingots, there will be a $5 gas fee to be paid in cash at the time of their session.

Craft Nova Scotia Members are eligible for a 15% discount. To claim it contact  studio.coordinator@craftnovascotia.ca

Ceramics Open Studio Program

We’re temporarily pausing our Ceramic Open Studios for review. We appreciate your understanding during this transition.

Loom Rental (Weaving Open Studio Program)

The Weaving Studio at Craft Nova Scotia’s Centre for Craft is home to 14 looms and 1 tapestry loom that have been used exclusively for instructional courses and residents. With the loom rental program, we would like to extend the resources in our Weaving Studio to artists, crafters, and hobbyists with previous weaving experience to carry out independent projects.

Access to the weaving studio is available during Mary E. Black Gallery hours, from Wednesday to Sunday 11am to 4pm.

The loom rental program is not an instructional program, participants are expected to work independently. Renting a loom includes access to all weaving equipment in our studio, but materials need to be provided by the participants. A technician will be available bi-weekly to resolve any technical issues.

Pricing for 4 weeks ranges between $80-$100 + HST in a pay what you can basis. The fee includes a weaving kit with 2 shuttles, bobbins and threading tools. Additional tools may be provided depending on their availability.

Our rental interest form is now open, rentals will start on February 2024.
