Exhibition Statement

When the moon is in the Seventh House

And Jupiter aligns with Mars

Then peace will guide the planets

And love will steer the stars

This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius

The 5th Dimension ~ Age of Aquarius

The Woodstock Music and Art Fair took place over four days in August 1969.  Over half a million people came to a dairy farm in Bethel, NY to see and hear performances from the likes of Jimi Hendrix, the Grateful Dead, the Who, Janis Joplin, and Jefferson Airplane.  With Woodstock celebrating its 50th anniversary, we wanted to celebrate too.  To that end, Craft Nova Scotia challenged our members to create works around the theme of the Age of Aquarius.

The 20 works selected by our invited jurors, Donald Bell, Holly Carr, and Andrew Terris, explore a variety of interpretations of the exhibition’s theme Here you’ll find fringed vests, bongs, tie-dye, political statements and more interpreted in clay, glass, metal, wood and textiles Accompanying each work is a brief statement by the artist that briefly explains they were inspired by the Age of Aquarius.
