Gerry Collins is a ceramics artist based in Moncton NB who’s exhibition Unwinding Evolution explores the pottery vessel as a story-telling device for the development of the human species. In this Exhibition Gerry Collins’ melds her background as a Zoologist with her practice with clay. Collins uses the form of the amphora vessel “as a metaphor for the human body”….”more than any other vessel, the amphora is associated with travel and with the transportation of precious fluids.” Anthropologically the clay vessel is a distinct marker of daily human life. Ceramic objects evolve in the human hand both in the moment of making and in their use over time. Designs shaped by our needs and influenced by trade become as distinct as our own immensely complex evolutions.
