Membership Categories
Become a part of a local community of professional craftspeople and craft enthusiasts.
Membership runs from the date you paid to the same date the following year, e.g Feb 1, 2022 – Feb 1, 2023.
Patron Member – $50
This membership is for people with a passion for craft and with a desire to support craftspeople and Craft Nova Scotia. This membership supports the various programs of Craft Nova Scotia including the Mary E. Black Gallery and the Centre for Craft Studios. Patron Members support the craft community and enjoy discounts in our retail shop and access to all of our markets.
- 15% Discount in online Designer Craft Shop
- Free admission to the Designer Craft Show & Pop-Up Markets
- Complimentary access to VIP events at Summer and Winter Market
- Invitations to markets, exhibition openings, artist talks, special events and receive news from the organization
- This membership does not have a vote at the AGM
*According to the CRA we are able to write a charitable tax receipt of $25 for Patron members
Maker Membership – $40 – $100
(sliding scale in intervals of $20)
This membership is for all practicing craftspeople, whether you are a student, emerging, intermediate or senior makers.
- Complementary access to Standards Assessment / Master Artisan Assessment
- Juried members are eligible to participate in all retail opportunities (markets, online shop)
- Juried members are eligible to participate in all retail opportunities – online Designer Craft Shop, Summer & Winter markets, Halifax Convention Center’s Shop Local Pop-Ups, future retail partnerships with Develop NS, and any other opportunities.
- Apply for the Craft NS Annual Member Exhibition
- Opportunity to participate on committees (Standards, Exhibitions, Market Advisory, etc)
- Reduced Workshop Fees
- Share your exhibitions, events and workshops with the craft community through the Craft Nova Scotia monthly newsletter
- Receive one on one support with grants and exhibition applications
- Receive one on one support with research (looking for retailers, grants, galleries, etc…)
- Business Insurance: Custom tailored for the small craft and visual art business, Arthur J Gallagher Insurance is pleased to offer a special insurance package to Craft NS members, including contents coverage, general liability for exhibitions, craft fairs and retail shows, and shipping/transportation.
- Health Insurance Plan: We have partnered with Theriault Financial Inc. and the Chambers Group Health Plan to offer members health benefits at an affordable rate. Packages vary depending on your individual needs.

- Option to Subscribe to Studio Magazine at a reduced rate
- 1 year subscription $11.95 + $1.50 shipping
- 2 year subscription $20.00 + $1.50 shipping
Members who opt into a Studio Magazine subscription will be charged the subscription fee and shipping on top of their annual membership fee.
Student Maker Membership – $25
Students must be 18 years of age or over and currently registered in a post-secondary program.
Students receive all the same benefits as the Maker Membership listed above.
Group Membership – $70
This membership is for craft organizations, institutions and guilds.

- Apply for the Craft NS annual Membership Exhibition as a group
- Juried guilds may participate in retail opportunities
- Reduced workshop fees (where applicable)
- Free entry to Craft Nova Scotia markets for members
- One vote at the Craft Nova Scotia Annual General Meeting
