Craft Nova Scotia’s Advanced Craft Practice online courses are for self-motivated craftspeople and artists who want to develop and extend their own explorations of craft. Especially designed for deepening their learning in themes of studio practice and techniques, as they continue to grow as practicing professionals.

Crafting a Studio: Ceramics (Online)

Instructor: Toni Losey

Ready to take the next step in your career and set up your own studio space but don’t know where to start? 

In this course, Crafting a Studio: Ceramics, ceramic artist, Toni Losey will give participants an inside look at what it takes to set up a ceramic studio in your own space. Starting from the ground up, this course will help you focus on the tools needed and demystify the purchase of large equipment while touching on all the health and safety tips along the way, to keep you safe for years to come. Toni even shares some of her hacks on how to use what is readily available on a small budget!

Crafting Your Skills: Stone Setting (Online)

Stone Setting can be a daunting task even for the most experienced jewelers. In  Crafting Your Skills: Stone Setting ,  Lindsay MacDonald will walk you through three stone setting styles with the intent to develop confidence in your own independent setting skills; using common tools found in most intermediate to advanced level jewellery studios.   

Join Lindsay MacDonald in her home studio where experienced filmmakers have meticulously captured extreme close-up details of works-in-progress and learn how to integrate these skills into your own jewellery work.  

Each module in this course is meant to be a one-stop source for gem and stone setting knowledge including instructional videos, resource lists, tricks, tools, terminology of the trade, and a troubleshooting index for each technique.

Crafting the Exhibition: From Studio to Gallery (Online)

In this course, we go behind the scenes of the exhibition planning process to provide the necessary information to artists and art workers for successful exhibition installations and gallery relations. Local gallery professionals bring together their years of experience in working firsthand with artists in successfully planning and installing exhibitions. Through engaging conversation, they will discuss important considerations about installation methods and expectations when working with galleries.  

Topics covered include shipping, crate-building, floor planning, just to name a few. Utilizing integrated learning materials such as animated diagrams and video how-to by leading experts in digital learning, participants will walk away with all the knowledge needed to navigate the gallery landscape with confidence and professionalism.
